The Aegean & Ionian

The Greek
Islands.

Greece has more than 6,000 islands and islets — of which around 230 are inhabited. Each has its own character, history, and beauty. Together they form one of the world's most extraordinary archipelagos.

The Archipelago

Six Island Groups, Infinite Possibilities

The Greek islands are divided into six main groups: the Cyclades (the iconic whitewashed islands of the central Aegean), the Ionian Islands (lush and Venetian-influenced, off the western coast), the Dodecanese (close to Turkey, with Byzantine and Ottoman layers), the Sporades (forested and relatively undiscovered), the Saronic Islands (close to Athens, ideal for short escapes), and Crete (the great island, a world unto itself).

Each group has its own distinct character — and within each group, every island is different. The Greek islands reward the traveller who goes beyond the obvious.
