The Island
Mykonos occupies a unique position in the Greek island hierarchy — simultaneously ancient and utterly contemporary. Its iconic windmills, the colourful waterfront of Little Venice, and the winding lanes of Mykonos Town (Chora) have been drawing the world's most stylish travellers since the 1960s.
Yet beneath the glamour lies a genuinely beautiful Cycladic island: rocky hills, turquoise coves, and a light so clear it seems to sharpen everything it touches. The island rewards those who look beyond the obvious.
Experiences
Mykonos's beaches range from the family-friendly sands of Ornos to the legendary party beaches of Paradise and Super Paradise. For something quieter, Agios Sostis and Fokos offer wild, unspoiled coastline accessible only by rough track.
The nearby island of Delos — a short boat ride from Mykonos — is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Greek world: the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary power.
Getting There
Mykonos is served by Mykonos Island National Airport (JMK), with direct flights from Athens (45 minutes) and seasonal direct connections from London, Paris, Amsterdam, and other European cities. Ferry connections link Mykonos to Piraeus and the wider Cyclades.
High season runs July–August; May–June and September offer the best balance of weather, atmosphere, and value.
