The Charter Fleet
Greece has one of the world's largest and most diverse charter fleets. Sailing yachts range from classic wooden vessels to modern performance cruisers; catamarans offer stability and space, making them ideal for families or groups; and the traditional Turkish gulet — a broad-beamed wooden motor-sailer — provides a more leisurely, deck-focused experience.
Bareboat charters are available to qualified sailors, while skippered and fully crewed charters cater to those who prefer to leave the navigation to others. Luxury superyachts with full crew, chef, and water toys represent the pinnacle of the charter experience.
The main charter bases are Piraeus (Athens), Lavrion, Corfu, Lefkada, Kos, and Rhodes. Most charters run Saturday to Saturday during the peak season.
Cruising Grounds
The Cyclades offer the quintessential Greek sailing experience — strong meltemi winds in summer, dramatic volcanic landscapes, and the iconic whitewashed villages of Mykonos, Paros, and Santorini. The circuit from Athens to Santorini and back, taking in Syros, Paros, Naxos, and Ios, is one of the classic Mediterranean passages.
The Ionian Islands — Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos — offer gentler winds and lush, green landscapes in contrast to the Aegean. The Ionian is considered one of the finest cruising grounds in the world for its combination of scenery, anchorages, and sailing conditions.
The Dodecanese, anchored by Rhodes and Kos, offer a more remote and culturally rich experience, with Byzantine castles, Ottoman architecture, and some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean.
